Surfing or body boarding
Experience the great surf and mile-long deserted sand beaches we have to offer, at the best spots to suit your level. You can’t leave Cape Town without having surfed!

South African Penguin Colony
One of the main attractions in Betty’s Bay is the second-largest penguin breeding colony in Africa. A 10-minute walk from our guesthouse, you can see them waddling on the sand, darting through the azure water and preening on the rocks – typical crowd-pleasers!

Botanical Gardens
Lying snugly between mountains and sea, the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden in Betty’s Bay includes sweeping mountain slopes, deep gorges, and four vegetation types - afro montane forests, wetlands, coastal dunes and fynbos. Meander the trails and see waterfalls and a magical display of proteas, ericas and leucadendrons set amidst gardens in which some 60 bird species come to play!

Hiking or river kayaking
The Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, known as the Heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom and a UNESCO nature world heritage site is best explored on foot on countless stunning hiking trails or by kayak on one of its beautiful rivers. The reserve is home to the most complex biodiversity on earth, boasting 1,800 different species of plants, 77 of which don’t occur anywhere else on the planet!

Mountain biking
The Cape is cycling heaven, with beautiful vistas and challenging hills and the coastal road to Betty’s Bay has to be one of the most spectacular drives you will ever take, anywhere in the world. Hop on a bike and do it on wheels - with the wind in your hair, mountains on one side and sea on the other!

Whale watching
Between May and December, the annual migration of the Southern Right Whale sees the ocean surrounding the cape becomes a teeming playground for these giant beasts of the deep. Betty’s Bay lies directly on the Overberg whale coast, a stretch of coastline which boasts the best place in the world for land-based whale watching. The whales come right close to the shore, often within 50m, and seeing them frolic about is thrilling.
